HGTV: Family-Oriented Garden |

Page 1 of 5 HGTV Television Makeover Information “Outer Spaces” Segment #107 “Family Oriented Garden” Before and After Photo Gallery Before After Notes: The children’s swing set was getting old and needed replacing. For the makeover, I exchanged it with a custom-built raised vegetable garden for the family to enjoy together. The bottomless vegetable planter measures 5’ x 8’ x 12” deep. The ground was cleared and rototilled and a weed barrier cloth placed before the planter was set down. Quality planting soil was added and some tomato plants already in another area of the yard were transplanted to its new home. We filled in with other warm-season vegetables. A custom trellis measuring 8’ x 5’ was added for climbing vegetables like cucumbers. Pea gravel serves as a mud deterrent and adds a nice crunchy sound underfoot. Ceramic artist, Cynthia Sellar’s handcrafted mosaic steppingstones adds an artistic touch!
