Garden Police Solution: Michael and I were excited about the small size of the yard, thinking we would get through the project in record time. Our optimism dissipated as soon as our shovels touched the ground. The soil was dry, hard and impenetrable. The lawn had not been watered since the last rain because the Flukers' sprinklers were broken. (Make a note to water your lawn a few days before you plan on removing it!) We also had to remove a mysterious window that Fluke installed in his entryway that looked out into the yard. The window served no practical or aesthetic purpose so we took it out. We removed the dead potted plants from the entry and called in Bob Silva of the Rain Bird Corporation to help us with a new sprinkler system. Then we got started on the new design plan.
